The President of the National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, on Saturday called for a large-scale return of tourists to Jammu and Kashmir, saying that his presence would be a strong slap on the mouths of the terrorists and this would be a proof of the firmness of the region. At a condolence meeting in Pahalgam, Dr. Abdullah expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and praised the unity of the people under adverse conditions. Referring to those who tried to disrupt peace in the region, he said, “Their faces will turn black due to the unity and perseverance of the people.”
Farooq Abdullah reiterated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not scared. He said, “We are not afraid. Jammu and Kashmir is ours and we will cherish this beautiful land and build it which Allah has given us.” He said that the situation is normal. More and more tourists should come here. They should not be afraid. ‘The one who got scared died’. I appeal to the people that they must come to Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Srinagar and Katra to visit Mata Vaishno Devi. We are tired of terrorism. It is important to end terrorism and whatever steps the Prime Minister will take for this, we are with them and are waiting for it.
Abdullah supported the local demand to change the name of the Higher Secondary School in the name of the deceased and assured the attendees that the party would place this demand before the administration. He said, “Inshaallah, we will put it before the government and not only the name of the school will be changed but it will also be further developed.” Calling the people of Jammu and Kashmir to unite, he urged maximum public participation in honoring the memory of the deceased. “Let the enemies of peace see our resolve. We will not back down.” Dr. Abdullah also emphasized the importance of development of neglected areas and hoped that the government and local representatives would work towards widespread progress in the area.
