A 15 -day ultimatum has now been issued to the drivers who have not been able to pay their invoices on time. A warning has been issued to those who violate the rules by the regional transport of Mohali.
Transport Officer (RTO) Pradeep Singh Dhillon told Hindustan Times that the vehicles of those who do not follow the rules will be blacklisted on the website of the Transport Department. According to the information, about 10 thousand challans are pending in the district.
Once a vehicle falls on the black list on the transport website, its owner will be unable to use services on the vehicle portal including tax payments, vehicle renewal and other related services. Dhillon said that under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, it is mandatory to pay the challan amount within 90 days of the challan issuance. If the fine is not filled within this period, the vehicle can be blacklisted. He informed that for not paying on time, legal action and fine will be imposed as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Dhillon said, “Despite reminiscent of many times and giving notice, a large number of drivers have not paid a fine for violations like driving at high speed, crossing red lights and driving carelessly. Therefore, they will have to pay their dues within 15 days or will be blacklisted.” He said, “We have already put the black list registered outside the district, because the RTO has the right to do so.”
