Train to Kashmir: Vande can flag India for Kashmir on June 6, PM Modi, will address rally in Katra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will probably inaugurate train services from the holy city of Katra to Kashmir in the first week of June, after which the Vande Bharat train will start running between Katra and Baramulla. Officials said that preparations for starting train service for Kashmir are being finalized and the Prime Minister may flag off the first train for the valley on 6 June. The train service was to be launched on 19 April, but was postponed that day due to the prediction of bad weather.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April and the subsequent operation was further delayed, in which the Indian armed forces attacked terrorist structures and military establishments in Pakistan and POJK from 7-10 May. Officials said that with the opening of the railway line, the passengers of Shri Amarnath ji will be able to go from Katra to Srinagar. He said that if needed, special trains can be run to reduce the crowd of pilgrims, especially in the event of highway blocking. According to officials, only Vande Bharat train is expected to run between Katra and Baramulla. Prime Minister will flag off the virtual train from Katra to Baramulla and Baramulla to Katra. He will address a rally at Katra Stadium.

Before flagging off the train service from Katra, Modi can visit the world’s tallest rail bridge on the Chenab river and the first cable stay bridge on the railway track in Reasi district. According to sources, initially the train will run from Katra to Baramulla. However, after the completion of the expansion work at Jammu railway station, including increasing the number of platforms, the train will start operating from Jammu, which will probably start in August-September. At present, there will be no direct train for Kashmir from Delhi or any other part. Passengers will have to land in Katra and change the train. Later the same process will be adopted in Jammu.
