Kiev. The Ukrainian military said it shot down a Russian warplane while Russia claimed capture of a village in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s public broadcaster Suspilne quoted Serhiy Horbunov, head of the Kostiantynivka military administration, as saying that the Russian fighter plane was shot down near the town of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk province. The burnt plane can be clearly seen in the pictures. This fighter plane fell on a house, after which it caught fire.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed on Saturday that it had captured the village of Zelenye Druhye. This village falls in Donetsk province, which is partially occupied by Russia. The Ukrainian army had said three days ago that they were withdrawing after two years of fierce fighting from the town of Vuhladar, about 33 kilometers from Zelenye Druhye, after which Russia has claimed to have captured it, although Ukraine is currently holding this area. The claim has not been confirmed.
Even after Russia’s claim of occupation, the situation of the war is unlikely to change, but the defeat of Vuhladar is definitely a sign of the worsening situation in Kiev. This is being seen as a result of the US refusing to allow Ukraine to attack targets located within Russian territory and preventing Kiev from weakening Moscow’s capabilities.
