At least 116 people, mostly women, died in a stampede during a religious event in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district on Tuesday. These figures may also increase. Aligarh Commissioner has given information that 116 have died in the Hathras accident. While the treatment of 18 injured is going on. The incident happened when a religious preacher was addressing his followers in a specially set up tent in Rati Bhanpur village of Sikandra Rao area of Hathras district. According to the police, prima facie it appears that people attending the 'satsang' felt uncomfortable due to suffocation at the venue. After this people started running, causing a stampede. Police said that it was very hot and humid during the program.
On the Hathras stampede incident, Uttar Pradesh Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary said that the families of those who lost their lives will be given Rs 2 lakh and the injured will be given Rs 50,000. The injured will be treated free of cost. UP CM Yogi Adityanath will visit the spot tomorrow. Hathras DM Ashish Kumar said that the district administration is working. The injured are being taken to the hospital and people are being treated. Doctors have told me that the death toll is around 50-60 people… The SDM had given permission to organize the event and it was a private event. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The priority of the administration is to provide all possible help to the families of the injured and the deceased. Inspector General (Aligarh Range) Shalabh Mathur said that it was a satsang gathering of religious preacher Bhole Baba. Temporary permission was given for the gathering at the site on the border of Etah and Hathras districts on Tuesday afternoon.
