Vishwakhabram: Opposition leaders are seeing Iran’s situation as a ‘golden opportunity’, is it possible to turn power in Tehran?

Opposition groups spread within and outside Iran have once again started emphasizing the expectations of political change in the country. Between the ongoing struggle between Israel and Iran and the weakening grip of the government, these groups believe that the “golden opportunity” of power change is now in front of them. Although the general public in Iran is feeling helpless and frightened due to the possibility of war and foreign attacks, exile opposition leaders and various armed groups have become active on the possibilities of change of power.
If we look at the major opposition factions and their demands, then tell you that the name of Reza Pahlavi comes first in them. Reza Pahlavi, son of former Shah Mohammad Raza Pahalvi and America, recently announced in the media that he is ready to “lead” political changes “. He said that “this is a historic moment of Iran’s independence, and we should not let it go by hand.”

In addition, MEK (Mojahideen-e-Khalak), it is the most organized opposition group, which once supported Saddam Hussain during the Iraq war. It has also been accused of “Cult -like behavior” and human rights violations. Its political platform National Resistance Council (NCRI) leader Maryam Rajvi said at a conference held in Paris: “We do neither want Shah nor the existing Molla rule. Our aim is a secular, democratic and independent Iran.”
Apart from this, regional separatist organizations are also in the fray. Among them, separatist groups operating in Kurdish and Baloch dominated areas of Iran are also particularly cautious at this time. It is believed that they are making plans for rebellion by taking advantage of this struggle. Although the activities of deported leaders and armed groups may have accelerated, but the general public of Iran is afraid of war and volatility and self -defense is their first priority at this time.
Many young women and students participating in the Mahsa Amini movement have said that they are angry with the government, but at this time it will be like suicide on the streets. A student said, “When missiles are falling and foreign attacks are happening, we can only think about being alive.” In addition, there is a fact that although there are many factions seeking change of power, their biggest challenge is to remove the clear lack of mutual division and leadership.
Let us tell you that Reza Pahlavi Shah is a favorite face for supporters, but those who want secular democracy are denied. At the same time, MEK is still not confident of many Iranians, especially due to his role in the Iraq war. At the same time, regional rebel groups are considered a threat to the integrity of the country. So at the moment there is no one platform or leader who can unite the disgruntled sections of the entire country.
Let us also tell you that the encouragement of opposition groups is also increased because Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu recently addressed the Iranian public directly saying that we are not only eliminating the nuclear threat of Iran, but also cleaning the path of your freedom. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also clarified that the change of governance or existing leadership in Iran is not the declared target of Israel’s attacks, but this may be a possible result.
Let us also tell you that the US has not given open support to any Iranian opposition leader so far, but analysts believe that parts of the Iranian opposition are getting encouragement from secret diplomatic support or ‘back channel’. Let us also tell you that the current regime, which has been in Iran for 46 years, has so far adopted a strategy to crush every protest. This time, even though the situation is very unstable and unusual, but the possibility of change of power is only a dream until the opposition is organized, reliable and grassroots. If seen, at the moment, there is a spark of change within Iran, but it not only needs strategy, leadership and courage to become Shola, but also solidarity.
