We are all Hindus … Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosbole said- caste has no place in the Sangh

Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosbole of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gave a special interview to the Vikrama weekly magazine of Karnataka. He spoke to Vikrama’s editor Ramesh Dodpura about nationalism in Sangh, Ram temple and political parties. Hosbole said that the branch is a system that was designed for manufacture a century ago. If there is a branch in a town or village, it means that there is a presence of the Sangh there. He said that the founder of the Sangh, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, had participated in the freedom movement and many other activities and he had immense experience in this process. This requires a certain mentality, discipline, dedication and perseverance, but should not expect immediate results.
There are many interpretations about the origin of the campaigner system in the union. However, where Dr. Hedgewar received this idea, it is definitely not known. In fact, our society has long maintained the tradition of sadhus and saints who dedicate their lives to nation, religion and spiritual works, keeping personal aspirations. For thousands of years, we have had such sages who have worked for a higher purpose with selfless spirit. Similarly, during the freedom struggle, many youth abandoned personal ambitions and dedicated themselves to the movement.

Hosbole said that Dr. Hedgewar himself had come out of such an atmosphere. Samarth Ramdas introduced the concept of ‘Mahant’ in Maharashtra, which is very similar to the life of the campaigner. He said that Hedgewar never clearly mentioned the adoption of this concept, given that he had introduced the RSS in Maharashtra, it is possible that he was influenced by such views. Unfortunately we do not have the extensive written work or speech of Dr. Hedgewar which can provide deep insight into his thought process.

Hosbole said that the argument that caste should be preserved only to maintain diversity is not favorable for national unity. India’s geographical and natural diversity ensures that social diversity will always remain. It is wrong to say that only caste is necessary to maintain diversity. If caste is limited to family traditions or domestic practices, then it does not harm the society. However, if caste is used to discriminate or decide political power, it becomes a problem for society.
