The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for 15 states of North India on Tuesday and Wednesday amid forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has also issued a 'red' alert for Gujarat. According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon will arrive in the country this week. After this, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the state on July 3.
On July 3, an orange alert was also issued for the northeastern states. The weather agency had predicted heavy rainfall in many areas of northwestern India. It is believed that moderate to heavy rains may occur in Delhi on Wednesday. Earlier, after rain at different places on Tuesday, waterlogging problem persisted in many areas of the national capital. The Meteorological Department had predicted moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds this morning.
Orange alert issued for these states
The weather department has issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh for July 3. The northeastern states received above normal rainfall last week, leading to heavy floods, landslides and waterlogging in some areas. Rivers in Arunachal Pradesh are now flowing above the danger level, while floods in Assam and Manipur have damaged hundreds of houses.
The weather agency on Tuesday said the southwest monsoon covered the entire country on July 2, six days ahead of schedule. However, it was delayed in June when the country was experiencing intense heat. The monsoon arrived over Kerala and the northeast region on May 30, two and six days ahead of normal. The southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab today. Thus, it covered the entire country on July 2, 2024 instead of the normal date of July 8,” the IMD said in a statement.
