Anand emphasized that the rule of law would never be compromised. The alleged relations between the murder of Indian officials and Nijjar created a diplomatic rift.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand has said that Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government is keen to increase partnership with India to make relations globally diverse. However, he also admitted that the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro -Khalistan, is negatively impacting bilateral relations. He said that Ottawa is taking this relationship forward by taking one step each. Anand is an Indian-Canadian. He told the Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail that we are ready to pursue this partnership, and we are also ready for it as a government. I am not just this.

Anand emphasized that the rule of law would never be compromised.

The alleged relations between the murder of Indian officials and Nijjar created a diplomatic rift. The then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the Canadian House of Commons that in June 2023, three months after the murder of Nijjar in Surrey of British Columbia, there were allegations of possible relations between Indian agents and murder. India dismissed the allegation as absurd and inspired. Four Indian citizens were arrested in connection with the murder last year. Anand said that Nijjar’s murder is affecting bilateral relations. We are definitely taking one step forward.

As I mentioned, the rule of law will never be compromised.

Anand reiterated Carney about starting relations with India afresh. He said that the investigation of Nijjar’s murder would continue under the aegis of an independent agency. On 25 May, Anand spoke to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. He thanked him for his meaningful discussion on strengthening Canada-India relations, deepening economic cooperation and advancing shared priorities. Anand said that he was eager to continue working together. Jaishankar said that he discussed the possibilities of India-Canada relations.
