Security forces in Bangladesh have arrested 1,308 people from across the country under the “Operation Devil Hunt” launched across the country to prevent incidents of congestion. The operation was started on Saturday by the interim government, headed by Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, after the student workers were injured during a vandalism at the house of a former minister of Awami League in Ghazipur last week. The interim government has vowed to uproot all the devils that create instability on completion of six months in power.

The top leader of former PM Khaleda Zia’s party BNP said that Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus assured the party that the interim government was preparing to hold general elections by December. In Ghazipur, 81 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associated organizations were arrested, while three people associated with the party of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were detained in Kumilla. Joint forces allegedly detained seven Awami League leaders, including a union council president, during different campaigns in different areas of Hatia Upazila, Noakhali.

The Yunus -led interim government launched a special campaign called ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ on Saturday with the aim of preventing unrest across the country and ensuring public safety. A government statement said that the operation began when gangs attacked by gangs associated with the fallen autocratic regime attacked them seriously. Speaking about the special campaign, Home Advisor Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary said that it will continue until all the devils are brought under the purview of justice and not a single devil should be released.
