During this demonstration, clashes were also witnessed between the police and the protesters. The police erected an iron wall to stop the protesters. But the crowd crossed it as well. Then the police showered water cannons on the people. But the people did not stop, then tear gas shells were fired. Overall, there was a fierce clash between the police and the people on the streets of Kolkata.

Bengal government issued notice to government employees

BJP president JP Nadda on Tuesday criticised the Kolkata police’s alleged heavy-handedness in dealing with protesters agitating over the rape-murder of a trainee doctor, saying that in Didi’s West Bengal, helping rapists and criminals is a priority.

West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose said that in the context of the peaceful protest declared by the student community of West Bengal and the alleged suppression of the protest by certain instructions of the government, I would urge the government to remember the strong declaration of the Supreme Court of India. Do not use the power of the state of West Bengal on peaceful protesters. In a democracy, there can be a silent majority, not a silent majority.
