During the hot debate with the RJD’s female members inside the Legislative Council, the Chief Minister pointed to the Leader of the Opposition in Hindi, saying in Hindi that “her husband made him CM when he was going through a difficult phase.”
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has reacted sharply to his mother and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi to be addressed by CM and JD (U) President Nitish Kumar a day earlier. During the hot debate with the RJD’s female members inside the Legislative Council, the Chief Minister pointed to the Leader of the Opposition in Hindi, saying in Hindi that “her husband made him CM when he was going through a difficult phase.”
Rabri Devi first became the Chief Minister in 1997, when her husband and RJD president Lalu Prasad had to step down after the CBI charge sheet in the fodder scam. The use of the term “its husband” by Kumar was considered derogatory and while members of his party opposed it inside the House, Tejashwi Yadav later told reporters, “This reflects the Chief Minister’s pathetic mental state which is not clearly suitable for running the kingdom”.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and now the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Yadav reminded her former boss that “Rabri Devi is older than her. She has been the Chief Minister of undivided Bihar. Even she is senior to the relationship between them.” This gesture was often towards calling Lalu Prasad “elder brother” by Kumar, who is his staunch rival and has aligned several times with whom he has aligned several times. Yadav, who is Prasad’s younger son and successor, condemned “a woman addressed in derogatory tone”.
