The latest revelation of Varun Chakraborty, who played a key role in Team India’s victory by bowling out in the Champions Trophy 2025, is shocking. Actually, Varun says that his performance in the T20 World Cup in 2021 was not strong, so he received threatening calls on the phone.
Varun said that the journey of Team India was over soon, then he felt that now his international cricket career is over. Keep in mind that Varun’s T20 debut was made from the series against Sri Lanka in July 2021. He was then selected in the team for the T20 World Cup led by Virat Kohli.
Varun then played a total of 3 matches during that tournament, but he could not take a single wicket. Varun was also a member of India’s team losing Pakistan from Pakistan by 10 wickets in Dubai. Which was India’s first defeat to Pakistan in any World Cup.
Varun told the famous anchor Gobinath on YouTube show that, this was a bad time for me. I was in depression because I felt that I could not do justice after being selected for the World Cup. I regretted not taking a single wicket. After that I did not have a selection for three years, so I felt that return to the team was more difficult than my debut.
Chakraborty further said that, I had to change a lot about myself. I had to change my routine, practice. Earlier I used to practice 50 balls in a session, I doubled it. Without knowing whether the selectors will call me back or not. it was tough. After the third year I felt that everything was over. We won the IPL and then I got a call after that I was very happy.
He said that after the 2021 World Cup, I received threatening calls. Said to not come to India. People came to my house, started looking for me- I had to hide many times. Some people were following me on their bikes when I was returning from the airport.
