The case has remained heated since US prosecutors accused Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani of alleged bribery and fraud scheme. Many allegations and counter-allegations have been made by BJP and Congress in this matter. Meanwhile, the White House has also reacted on this matter.
The White House said it is aware of the allegations against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, who was indicted in New York for his role in an alleged billion-dollar bribery and fraud scheme. U.S. prosecutors said Gautam Adani and seven other defendants, including his nephew Sagar Adani, defrauded Indian government officials of approximately $265 million to obtain contracts that yielded $2 billion in profits over 20 years and develop India’s largest solar power plant project. Agreed to pay a bribe of million dollars.
Adani Group has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless”, while Indian government officials have yet to comment. During a media briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that the administration is aware of the allegations against Adani. Asserting that relations between India and the US are built on a strong foundation, White House spokesperson expressed confidence that the US can deal with the current crisis related to bribery allegations against Gautam Adani.
“Obviously, we are aware of these allegations, and I would ask you to contact the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) and DOJ (Department of Justice) about the specifics of these allegations against Adani Group,” Karin Jean- Pierre said. “What I would say about the U.S.-India relationship is that we believe it stands on an extremely strong foundation based on the ties between our peoples and cooperation across the full range of global issues,” Jean-Pierre said.
Advocating stronger India-US ties, the White House Press Secretary said, “We believe and we are confident that we will continue to resolve this issue, as we have done with other issues, such as That you just said. And so the specifics of it, that’s something that the SEC and DOJ can talk about directly, but again, we believe that…this relationship between the two countries is built on a strong foundation. “
