Members of the Aam Aadmi Party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) on Monday held a meeting with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal at his residence. A day after Arvind Kejriwal’s surprise announcement of stepping down, the AAP has scheduled several meetings, including that of its Political Affairs Committee, to decide on a new chief minister for Delhi. After the meeting with the PAC, there will be a Legislature Party meeting at 11 am on Tuesday to finalise the name of the new CM, sources said.

After the meeting, Delhi minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that yesterday Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that he will resign from his post on Tuesday. He said that in this regard, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal called a meeting of PAC (Political Affairs Committee) in which all the senior leaders and cabinet ministers of Delhi were called. He held one-to-one discussions with all the leaders and ministers regarding the new CM. Tomorrow the second session of this meeting will be held with the MLAs.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he has sought time to meet Lt. Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday and may tender his resignation. Saxena has given Kejriwal time to meet him at 4.30 pm on Tuesday, official sources said on Monday. Kejriwal promised that he will not sit on the chief minister’s chair until people give him a “certificate of honesty”. He said he will call a meeting of AAP MLAs in a day or two and a party leader will take over as chief minister.

Days after being released from Tihar jail on bail in the excise policy case, AAP national convenor Kejriwal on Sunday said he will resign within 48 hours and demand early elections in Delhi. He said he will not sit on the chief minister’s chair until people give him a “certificate of honesty”. Kejriwal had said he will hold a meeting of AAP MLAs in a few days and a party leader will become the chief minister.
