Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the state government will give a compensation of two lakh rupees each to the families of 29 people who died due to lack of treatment allegedly due to the strike of agitating junior doctors. Banerjee wrote in a post released on the social media platform ‘X’, “It is sad and unfortunate that the prolonged strike by junior doctors caused disruption in health services and we lost 29 precious lives. ”

He said, “To help the bereaved families, the state government announces financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of each deceased.” The junior doctors have been on a ‘work stop’ agitation since the body of a woman doctor on duty was found at the government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The woman doctor was allegedly raped and killed.
