India’s Gukesh D has created history by becoming the youngest world champion in the history of chess. The Indian star won the title by defeating defending champion Ding Liren in the final game. Gukesh has become the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to become world champion in chess. In the 14th and final game of the Chess World Championship, Gukesh, playing black, defeated China’s Liren in a marathon game. The game was heading towards a tie, which would have taken the match to a tiebreaker, but the Indian star won the title in just 14 games.
The match was heading towards a draw, but the defending champion made a mistake on the 55th move when he moved his rook to f2. Ding realized his mistake and eventually had to resign. Gukesh had tears in his eyes and could not control himself as at the age of 18 he became the youngest player to become a world champion in chess. President Draupadi Murmu wrote that hearty congratulations to Gukesh on becoming the youngest player to win the World Chess Championship. He has made India very proud. Their victory seals India’s authority as a chess superpower. Well done Gukesh! On behalf of every Indian, I wish you continued glory in the future.
Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he wrote that historic and exemplary! Congratulations to Gukesh D on his remarkable achievement. This is the result of his unique talent, hard work and unwavering determination. He said that his victory has not only etched his name in the history of chess but has also inspired millions of youngsters to dream big and achieve excellence. My best wishes for his future endeavours. Congratulating Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, he wrote, “My heartiest congratulations to D Gukesh for winning the prestigious World Chess Championship title and becoming the youngest world champion in the history of chess. Your hard work and dedication have made the entire country proud!
Gukesh also gave his reactions on the match. Gukesh said that actually when he played RF2, I did not even realize it. When I realized that, it was the best moment of my life. We all know who Ding is. He has been one of the best players in history for many years. To see him struggle and see how much pressure he faced and how much fight he gave. For me he is a real world champion. He fought like a true champion, and I really feel sorry for Ding and his team. First of all I want to thank my opponent, without him all this would not have been possible.
