Oil and lentils. Both of them are essential use of every kitchen everyday, hence they are also very sensitive in terms of prices. As a population of about 140 crores, their prices increase the slightest sensitivity. Since their production in the country is less than the demand demand, it also gets a sense in the international market when a slight additional demand from India. Although it affects the whole country, but due to the most population of the country, Uttar Pradesh is affected the most.
Government’s efforts to increase the area under pulses and oilseeds
It should not happen. For the common man’s plate, the lentils of the plate are thick and the edge of the tempering oil is not thin, it is most important to increase production. Production will increase only when farmers increase their acreage and get a fair price for the produced crop. The double engine government (Modi and Yogi government) focus on both of them. Recently, their prices have also been increased in the minimum support price (MSP) declared by the central government for major kharif crops. Among them, MSP of different crops of pulses and oilseeds during a decade has increased from 81 to 172 percent. The lowest growth of 81 percent has increased peanuts and the highest increase in 172 percent in Niger seed.

Along with getting the farmers producing through the MSP according to the cost, the government is also making all possible cooperation along with making the farmers aware to increase their area and production. During the biggest campaign developed Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in the country, farmers are being informed about the methods of advanced farming of pulses and oilseeds. Not only this, during this campaignThe Yogi government will also distribute 4,58,000 free minicits among the progressive farmers, including pulses, Urd, 1,05,000 of moong, pigeonpea, 1,00,000 of sesame, 6,000 kits of peanuts.
The government is also running pulses and oilseeds missions. The Yogi government has also included its ambitious plan in a district, one product (OD OP). To promote pulses cultivation, the Yogi government is also running the pulses village scheme. The results of all this are also visible.
Production of oilseed crops increased by 128% in eight years
According to the data released by the state government, the production of oilseeds in the year 2016/2017 was only 12.40 lakh metric tonnes, which increased to 20.31 lakh metric tonnes in 2023-24. This is an unprecedented increase of 128%. Similar growth also occurred in pulses crops. This process of increasing the area of pulses and oilseeds and yield will continue even further through an ambitious scheme like UP Agreez, which is running with the help of World Bank, keeping Bundelkhand and Purvanchal at the center.
