Afghanistan left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Faruqi was fined 15 per cent of his match fee for protesting against an umpire’s decision during the second ODI of the three-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare. Farooqui was fined for breaching Level One of the ICC (International Cricket Council) Code of Conduct. This breach falls under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and their Support Staff.
Which is related to expressing disagreement on the umpire’s decision during an international match. The incident occurred in the fifth over of Zimbabwe’s innings on Thursday when Faruqui’s appeal for LBW against Craig Irwin was turned down and he protested. Despite DRS not being available in the match, Farooqui indicated for review. One demerit point was also added to Faruqui’s disciplinary record, his first violation in 24 months. He accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.
