Narela assembly constituency is a part of North West Lok Sabha seat of Delhi, adjacent to the Haryana border. More than two and a half dozen villages and about three dozen illegal colonies are in this assembly. Apart from these, a large number of new, old and housing apartments of DDA in Narela Subcity are also part of this assembly, but at present the population here is very less. On the other hand, geographically, the population of Narela has increased three times in the last two decades. The electoral victory or defeat in this assembly largely depends on the voters of rural areas and illegal settlements.
Major villages of this area include Lampur Bankner, Kheda Kalan, Kheda Khurd, Ghoga, Singhu, Tikri Khurd, Alipur, Palla-Bakhtawarpur, Bhorgarh, Sannoth. Similarly, there are residential sectors established by DDA in this area, which are built in a well-planned manner. There are also Metro Vihar Phase 1, 2, Bhim Colony, Tarzan Colony, Swarn Jayanti Vihar and e-unauthorized colonies in Swatantra Nagar, Nai Basti, Triveni Colony, Punarvas Colony.
Caste equation will be a big factor
Due to Narela being a rural area and adjoining most parts of Haryana, the factor of caste equation is highest here. Also now the effect of Rehabilitation Colony and Purvanchal is also visible. The Jat factor has been the heaviest here for more than two decades. Congress and BJP have tasted this, but the Aam Aadmi Party, which came to Delhi a decade ago, has made a good catch for the Aam Aadmi Party by giving ticket to Sharad Chauhan, who was in the BSP.
If considering the equation of Haryana, BJP decides on a non-Jat candidate from here, then the upcoming contest is going to be very interesting. In the new list of Aam Aadmi Party, after canceling the ticket of Narela MLA Sharad Chauhan, the party has now given party ticket to Arjun Award winner, former Kabaddi player Dinesh Bhardwaj, who is also a corporation councilor from Bankner. Before that, Dinesh Bhardwaj had contested the election of Municipal Councilor on Congress ticket. Now eyes will be on BJP ticket.
Know the election issues of the area
The demand for metro has been going on in Delhi’s Narela assembly seat for almost two decades. This becomes a big election issue in every election. Due to encroachment, blockage on roads and illegal colonies being settled in an irregular manner, there is a shortage of resources and the population is increasing explosively. There is not even a system of drainage of dirty water inside the villages. Work is not being done on the development of the village. Lack of higher education, only one hospital in the name of hospital where there are not many facilities.
political mood of the assembly
In the seven assembly elections held since 1993, Congress has won thrice while BJP and Aam Aadmi Party candidates have won twice each. Actually, voters in this area go with the atmosphere of election time. For example, BJP won here in 1993 and after that, Congress won three consecutive times under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit. After this, in 2013, BJP’s Neel Daman Khatri tasted victory and after that, Aam Aadmi Party’s Sharad Chauhan won twice in a row.
Sharad Chauhan of Aam Aadmi Party won the last two assembly elections consecutively. However, in the last elections, the victory-loss margin between AAP’s Sharad Chauhan and BJP’s Neel Daman Khatri reduced from 25 percent to 11 percent.
