Modi In Kuwait: Prime Minister meets Emir, attends inaugural ceremony of Arab Gulf Cup

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah during his visit to the West Asian country. The two leaders met during the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup, where Modi was invited as the chief guest at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City.
 
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release that informal talks took place between Prime Minister Modi and the leadership of Kuwait during the event. Kuwait was to play Oman in the first match of the eight-team football tournament. Kuwait is hosting the biennial Arabian Gulf Cup, playing eight countries including GCC countries Iraq and Yemen. The tournament is one of the most prominent sporting events in the region, with Kuwait having won the maximum number of leagues.
 
Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit at the invitation of the Amir of Kuwait. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years. On Saturday, Modi addressed a large number of Indian expatriates present at the special event ‘Hala Modi’ organized at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex in the city. The Prime Minister praised the Indian community for its contribution to global development, saying that India has the potential to become the “skill capital of the world”.
 
Modi said, “Hundreds of Indians visit Kuwait every year. You have added the Indian touch to Kuwaiti society. You have filled the canvas of Kuwait with the colors of Indian skills. You have combined the essence of India’s talent, technology and tradition in Kuwait.” ” He expressed happiness over the presence of Indians from different parts of the country in the Gulf country and called it “Mini Hindustan”.
