The Indian compound mixed team entered the bronze medal match in the second phase of the Archery World Cup here on Friday, while Deepika Kumari and Partha Sushant Salunkhe made it to the women’s and male recurve individual semi -finals respectively. Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Abhishek Verma Compound Mixed Team lost to UK’s Ella Gibson and Ajay Scott in 156–158 in the semi-finals. Now Dhamangaonkar and Abhishek will face Malaysia in a bronze medal match on Saturday.
In the individual male recurve competition, Salunkhe defeated Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and Paris Olympic bronze winner Mete Gajoj 6-5 in the first round and made it to the semi-finals by defeating Mete Gajoj in which he will face South Korean star player and Paris Olympic’s golden medalist Kim Wouwadine on Sunday. Salunkhe defeated Ryan Tay of Australia and then Kim J Deok of South Korea by a similar margin after defeating Aoshima Tatsuya of Japan 6–2 in Round 32 and then in the quarter-finals. In the women’s category, Deepika defeated Spain’s Lucia Ibanes Romero 6–4 before making it to the semi-finals, Diana Tursunbek of Kazakhstan 6–0 and France’s Victoria Sebastian 6–4. She gave 6-2 sermons to Lee Jiaman of China in the quarter-finals and will now take on Lim Sihyone of South Korea in the final four.
Sihion defeated another Indian Ankita Bhakta in the prequarter finals. Deepika and Dheeraj Bomadevara lost 1–5 to Spain’s Elia Canals and Andress Temino Medial in the second round in the recurve mixed team event. India will play two gold medal matches in addition to the compound mixed team bronze medal match on Saturday. The Indian compound women’s team of Madhura, Jyoti Surekha Vennam and Chikitha Taniparthi will take on Mexico in the final while the compound men team of Abhishek Verma, Rishabh Yadav and Ojas Praveen Devatale will also face Mexico.
