Ceasefire agreement with Gaza not yet complete: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late on Wednesday that the ceasefire agreement with Hamas has not yet been completed and work is being done to finalize it.

Just hours before Netanyahu’s statement, the US and Qatar had announced an agreement that would end the devastating 15-month war in Gaza and pave the way for the release of a large number of hostages.

This conflict has destabilized West Asia and led to protests around the world. After the announcement of the agreement, a large number of Palestinians took to the streets and celebrated.

“No one can do what we are feeling right now,” said Mahmoud Wadi in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. It cannot be described.” Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, in which 1,200 people were killed and 250 others were taken hostage.

Israel then launched retaliatory attacks, which according to Palestinian health officials killed more than 46,000 Palestinians. Additionally, an estimated 90 percent of Gaza’s population was displaced, creating a humanitarian crisis.

Netanyahu has not clearly stated whether he accepts the agreement announced hours earlier by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Sani and US President Joe Biden.

Netanyahu said in a statement that he would issue a formal response only after final details of the agreement were finalized. The details of the agreement are being finalized at this time. Negotiations for the agreement were taking place in Qatar’s capital Doha for several weeks.
