Beijing. The Chinese military has condemned a recent Pentagon report alleging corruption is hampering the PLA’s modernization. The report “condemns” the Chinese military and “exaggerates” the military threat posed by China. Reacting to a recently released Pentagon report by the US Defense Ministry, the Chinese Defense Ministry accused Washington of “creating a false narrative” against the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
Defense spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said Saturday that the report “mischaracterized China’s defense policies, speculated about China’s military capability development, and blatantly interfered in China’s domestic affairs, The Chinese military has been condemned and the so-called military threat posed by China has been exaggerated.” State news agency Xinhua quoted Zhang as saying in its report that China ”strongly condemns” all these statements. And Strongly opposes them.
Zhang said the US has been publishing such misleading reports year after year for more than 20 years. He said, “We urge the United States to stop creating false narratives, stop having misconceptions about China, and make efforts to stabilize bilateral and military relations.” Regarding China’s nuclear weapons, Zhang Said that its objective is to protect the country. But America, which has the world’s largest and most advanced nuclear arsenal, is adamant on the policy of first use of nuclear weapons.
Due to which international and regional peace and stability is being harmed. He also expressed hope that the United States will adopt a more positive and rational attitude towards China and the Chinese military and build a relationship between the Chinese and American militaries that does not involve conflict or confrontation, but promotes openness, pragmatism and cooperation. The Pentagon’s detailed 165-page report mentions many issues including Chinese military modernization and says that corruption is affecting China’s modernization.
