Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Saturday alleged that the Congress allowed Pakistan to become a nuclear -rich country instead of taking any action in the 1980s, which was a “historic mistake”. Sharma claimed that Pakistan is using “nuclear threats” to prevent international action.
The Chief Minister said in a post on ‘X’, “At a time when various countries are working decisively to neutralize nuclear threats, India’s tragic inactivity during the 1980s is a warning story of what could have happened, and what not happened.”
He said that it was like a “opportunity to lose” because the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) had concrete intelligence, which confirmed Pakistan’s uranium enrichment activities at the Kahuta plant.
In the post titled “How to let Pakistan become a nuclear -power country -rich country”, Sharma claimed that Israel had offered assistance from intelligence to a joint attack. He said that Jamnagar Air Force base was selected as a potential ‘launchpad’ and was fully prepared for an airstrike on the Indian Army Kahuta.
The Chief Minister alleged, “India had the ability to eliminate the danger before it became a reality and consensus. Yet at the last moment, Indira Gandhi showed hesitant due to fear of international results. ”
Sharma claimed that Rajiv Gandhi had postponed the scheme, giving priority to diplomacy under foreign pressure. He said that in 1988, Rajiv Gandhi signed a nuclear deal with the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, which pledged to take mutual control over attacking each other’s atomic installations.
