Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with top government officials and experts on Monday to take stock of preparations in the state with the third most active Covid case in India after Kerala and Gujarat. Talking to media persons in the state secretariat after the meeting, Banerjee said that we have a meeting today so that we can be ready. Senior officials of various departments as well as experts from the area also attended the meeting. We hope there will be no other epidemic. We need to be vigilant. But there is no need to panic.

The doctors involved in the meeting at the state secretariat said that currently the virus affecting people is a subtype of Omikron.

Dr. Yogiraj Ray, Head of the Department of Infectious Disease at the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata, said, “It is not yet considered as ‘concern’. This subverants are likely to cause cough and colds like normal influenza. We hope that this wave will spread rapidly and then soon it will end.” However, Banerjee said that the government is not yet issuing any guidelines or is not being banned.
