DMK MP Kanimozhi on Monday filed a notice of breach of parliamentary privilege against him in response to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s comment on the issue of National Education Policy. This notice came amid the ongoing debate on the proposed Tri-Language formula under NEP, which has given rise to intense controversy between the Center and the Tamil Nadu government. Before filing the notice, Kanimozhi said that the DMK government has expressed concern over the NEP and refused to fully accept the policy.

Taking a dig at the central government, Kanimozhi said that he should not link funds for school education with NEP implementation. We have not changed our stand. The minister called us false and rude. He hurt our self -respect. We are not against any language, but you cannot call us rude. Earlier, the Lok Sabha was postponed for some time after being condemned by several opposition members amid controversy over the implementation of NEP in Tamil Nadu.

Responding to a question on PM Shri Yojana, Pradhan said that the DMK -led Tamil Nadu government has changed its stand on implementing the centrally sponsored scheme, envisaging to strengthen schools managed by the Center, State or local bodies. Pradhan further said, “They are dishonest and they are wasting the future of Tamil Nadu students. They are doing politics.” The Union Minister claimed that Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin also initially agreed “but suddenly some super CMs surfaced and took a U-turn.
