Thackeray had in August insisted that instead of the party winning the most seats after the elections choosing the chief minister, the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) should declare the chief ministerial face before going to the polls. He had also said that he would support any chief ministerial candidate declared by Congress or NCP (SP).

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said he will support the chief ministerial candidate announced by its alliance partners, Congress and Sharad Pawar-led National Congress Party (NCP) ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Speaking at Vajra Nirdhar Parishad, an event organized by Shiv Sena at the state level, Uddhav Thackeray highlighted the importance of achieving victory in Maharashtra and showing support to the alliance partners.

Earlier, quoting sources, it was reported that Congress has demanded 18 out of 36 seats in Mumbai within the MVA. So far, consensus has been reached on 22 seats, out of which Shiv Sena will contest on 12, Congress on 8, Samajwadi Party on one and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) on one. Sources further said that talks are still going on for the remaining 14 seats, and interestingly, five of these Mumbai seats are not being claimed by any of the major MVA allies – Shiv Sena, Congress or NCP.
