The United States charged an Iranian man on Friday in connection with an alleged plot ordered by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards Corps to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump, the Justice Department said. Farhad Shakeri informed law enforcement that he was tasked with providing a plan to assassinate Trump on October 7, 2024, the department said in a statement. It said Shakeri told law enforcement that he did not intend to prepare any such plan within the time frame directed by the IRGC.

According to the complaint, Shakeri told the FBI that the officer had asked him to formulate a plan within seven days but that he did not intend to propose the plan within that time period. Federal officials have previously said that Iran is trying to target the country’s government officials, including Trump, on American soil.
