External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday held “very open and meaningful” talks with a high representative of Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU) in Brussels, which discussed areas such as defense and security, maritime security, cyber and space.
The first strategic dialogue between India and the European Union included Kaja Kalas, the high representative of the European Union along with Jaishankar. He also discussed the schemes of an “ambitious and balanced” India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of the year.
Jaishankar said, “I believe our meeting was very open and useful.” He highlighted that his visit to Belgium was taking place about three months after the European Union Commissioner’s visit to India.
He said, “It is clear that the world system is going through an intensive change.
Jaishankar said that he has exchanged views on the global system with the high representative of the European Union and further discussions will be intensively discussed on the situation of Europe, including Ukraine struggle, West Asia, Indian subcontinent and Hind-Practices.
The issue of opposing terrorism also dominated the agenda, in which Kalas described “nuclear threats” as a matter of mutual concern for India and the European Union. Jaishankar told reporters: “India firmly believed that there should be zero tolerance to all forms and expressions of terrorism.
