Professor Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Bangladesh government, has once again raised the issue of North Eastern states of India in an attempt to create a controversy after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He has proposed an Economic Integration Scheme, including Nepal and Bhutan. During a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of Nepal’s House of Representatives in Dhaka, Yunus emphasized the importance of cross -border cooperation in areas such as hydroelectric, healthcare and transport infrastructure. Highlighting the need for deep regional relations through shared projects, he said, “There should be an integrated economic plan for Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and seven sisters.”

The discussion especially focused on hydroelectric cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal, in which the two sides recognized the importance of the recently signed Bangladesh-Nepal-India tripartite power sales agreement. The deal enables Bangladesh to import 40 MW of power from Nepal using India’s power grid. Yunus also underlined Bangladesh’s efforts to promote regional healthcare. He mentioned that the 1,000 -bed hospital employed in Rangpur will be open to patients in Nepal and Bhutan, which will help strengthen regional health protection and shared prosperity.
