This is the same tournament that Neeraj’s coach and world record holder Jane Jelejni has won 9 times in his career. He won the title between 1986 and 2006.
Neeraj said after the victory that, I am not happy with my performance but it is a pleasure to win the title. I used to watch this tournament since childhood. I saw veterans like Jelejni and Usain Bolt winning the golden spike and I thought I would win one day. That dream has come true. I know that Bhalafenk is quite Lokpriya in the Czech Republic. We got immense support from the audience. I wish I could have done better.
Neeraj started with foul in this tournament. He then threw 83.45 meters in the second attempt. Neeraj was third after the second round. He topped the third round with a throw of 85.29 meters. His next two throw stood at 82.17 meters and 81.01 meters, while the last throw was foul. In the last two seasons, he could not play here for fitness reasons.
Chopra, 27, finished second in May this session by crossing the 90 meter barrier in the Doha Diamond League in May. After this, Paris won the Diamond League title. Neeraj was part of the Asia Pacific team in the IAAF Continental Cup in 2018 and finished sixth with a throw of 80.24 meters. Now he will participate in the Neeraj Chopra Quicki tournament in Bangalore on July 5, in which Peters and Rohaler are also playing.
