After the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India made the facts of rumors about the removal of Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar as the head of the Northern Command as the head of the Northern Command. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued an explanation refuting the rumors spreading through social media accounts, especially the pro -Pakistan handles, losing that Lieutenant General Kumar was removed from his post due to alleged internal differences after the attack. The PIB’s fact-creating unit clearly rejected the claims broadcast on social media and termed them fake.
News of ‘removal’ of military commander after Pahalgam attack is fake: government
The government’s letter Information Office (PIB) on Wednesday denied the claims made by several Pakistan’s pro -Social Media Accounts stating that Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, Commandant of the Northern Command of the Indian Army, has been removed from his post after the Pahalgam attack. PIB clarified that Lieutenant General Kumar is retiring on 30 April.

PIB fact check revealed truth
The PIB Fact Czech said in a post ‘X’, “The claims being made in these posts are fake.” Also, it also shared a screenshot of several accounts that have falsely claimed. Many misleading posts have been posted on social media amidst the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, amidst the increased tension in India and Pakistan. On April 22, terrorists shot and killed 26 people in Basaron in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, mostly tourists.

Lieutenant General Kumar took over in February 2024 as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army in Udhampur. On the microblogging forum, it was written, “Many pro -Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claimed that Northern Command Commander Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar has been removed from his post after the incident in Pahalgam. According to the investigation of the PIB fact check, the claims being made in these posts are fake. ”Lieutenant General Kumar is retiring on April 30 and Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma will be appointed as the new commander of the Northern Command. Lieutenant General Kumar was earlier employed as Deputy Army Chief.
Other fake news, PIB busted
The PIB had said on Monday that some supporters of Pakistan are making the social media account wrongly claiming that ‘confidential documents’ related to the preparations of the Indian Army have been leaked. In social media posts, the PIB Fact Czech called these documents “fake”. The PIB Fact Czech said in its post, “The social media accounts of Pakistan are falsely claiming that the confidential documents related to the preparations of the Indian Army have been leaked.
The PIB fact check confirms that these documents are fake. Please avoid sharing unmatched information and trust the official sources of the Government of India only for accurate information. ”The Ministry of Defense on Sunday warned that there is a ‘misleading’ message going on on WhatsApp, claiming that the government has opened a bank account to demand donations for modernization of the Indian Army. The ministry denied this message and urged people to “being vigilant and not being victims of such fraudsters”.
