The Odisha Vigilance Department on Sunday caught 2021 batch IAS officer Dhiman Chakma allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. Chakma, posted as a sub-sector in Kalahandi district of Odisha, demanded Rs 20 lakh from a local businessman and was allegedly accepting a installment of bribe. The businessman who filed a complaint against Chakma alleged that the IAS officer threatened to take action against his business for not paying the amount sought.

According to the complaint, the sub-sector called him at his government residence in Dharamgarh, Odisha, took the amount of bribe and put him in a table there. The officer allegedly counted all 26 bundles of 100 rupee notes of different price classes and then placed the cash inside the drawer of his housing office. The Vigilance Department also recovered cash worth about Rs 47 lakh during a search from his official residence.

A case has been registered against the IAS officer under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 after the arrest of the IAS officer and the cash was recovered from his house. Officials said further investigation against Chakma is going on.
