Tension is increasing on Pakistan and Afghanistan border. The Pakistani Army and Taliban soldiers clashed in Khyber. Taliban army soldiers are reported to have used heavy weapons amid tension. The recent controversy began when the Taliban tried to create a new outpost to secure its border, which the Pakistani army started firing, stating that a violation of the agreement. Now Pakistan has intensified efforts to get Afghan citizens out of the country, as data from the country’s internal ministry shows that more than 200,000 people have been deported since April. Apart from this, Iran has also started to get the Afghans out of the country, which has already increased concerns over the Taliban’s ability to handle people’s arrival among the extrem economy. More than 135,000 Afghans left the country in April, 67,000 in May and more than 3,000 Afghans left the country in the first two days of June. Since the introduction of indigenous return campaign in November 2023, more than one million Afghans have returned from Pakistan.

Thousands of more Afghans ran to Pakistan after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. The ministry said that more than 1 million Afghans have returned to their homeland since the start of exile in November 2023. It is estimated that about 3 million Afghan citizens are still living in Pakistan.

Iran ordered Afghans to leave the country

Meanwhile, Tehran has started his campaign to get Afghans out of the country. The country’s internal ministry said that the people of Afghanistan have time till July 6 to leave Iran. Nader Yarhamadi of the Iranian Interior Ministry said on government television that it would affect around 40 lakh Afghans, of which more than six million Afghans are in Iran. Then again called all countries to suspend the forced return of Afghans, irrespective of their immigration situation, until the conditions of safe, voluntary and respectable withdrawal are implemented.

How many Afghans live in Pakistan?

According to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, Pakistan has 2.18 million Afghan refugees, who have documents. This includes 1.3 million refugees with the proof of registration (POR) card as per the census conducted in 2006-07, as well as an additional 8,80,000 refugees receiving ACC cards after the registration campaign in 2017.
