PM Modi expressed grief after Unnao accident, announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased, the injured will get help of Rs 50 thousand

Following the accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, in which 18 people lost their lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

“The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each of those killed in the Unnao accident. The injured will be given Rs 50,000 each,” an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also expressed his condolences on this tragic accident. Singh wrote on Twitter, “The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. The local administration is engaged in treating the injured. I express my condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this accident. This is an irreparable loss. May God give strength to their families to bear this grief.”

Eighteen people were killed and more than 30 injured when a double-decker sleeper bus collided with a milk container on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district. The incident occurred at 5:15 am. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed the district administration to provide proper treatment to the injured. He also wished them a speedy recovery.

On the occasion, CM Adityanath said, “The death of people in a road accident in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families. District administration officials have been directed to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed souls a place in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured.”

The double-decker sleeper bus was on its way from Bihar's Motihari to Delhi when it hit a milk tanker from behind on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Garha village under Behta Mujawar police station area. On receiving information about the incident, police led by Bangarmau Circle Officer Arvind Chaurasia reached the spot and started rescue operations. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also reached Unnao hospital to meet the injured. The Deputy Chief Minister assured proper treatment to the injured. Deputy Chief Minister Pathak told ANI, “…18 people have died while many are injured and have been sent to Unnao district hospital. The injured are being shifted to high-level hospitals. All hospitals near Unnao have been put on alert.”

He further said that most of the injured people are from Bihar and the Uttar Pradesh government is in touch with the Bihar government. Brajesh Pathak said, “KGMO's trauma center is on alert, I have come and seen all the arrangements. Most of the injured people are from Bihar, and we are in touch with the Bihar government. The reasons for the accident will be known after investigation, our priority is to provide proper treatment to the injured.”
