A member of the Council of Nicosia touched Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a symbol of honor during his visit to the Mediterranean country in a unique gesture. Michela Kaitreoti Mhalpa, a member of the council of the country’s capital city, touched PM’s feet as a symbol of honor while welcoming PM Modi at the historic center of Nicosia. In Cyprus, Prime Minister Modi was honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Macaros III by President Nicos Christodolidase at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Nicosia. The Order of Makios III is named after Makios III, the first President of Cyprus, this honor is awarded to the heads of state and other important persons for commendable service to the nation. Prime Minister Modi thanked the President of Cyprus, Christodolidase, government and people for this honor. He said that this honor is a symbol of their unwavering commitment to peace, security, sovereignty, regional integrity and prosperity of the people.
This honor is not just mine, 140 crore Indians are respected. This is the respect of their strength and aspirations. This is the honor of our country’s cultural brotherhood and the ideology of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. I dedicate this honor to friendly relations between India and Cyprus and our shared values and mutual understanding. I accept this honor with extreme humility and gratitude from all Indians.
