Prime Minister Modi proposed to link his payment system to BIMSTEC countries with UPI. Prime Minister Modi also proposed to link India’s UPI with the payment system of BIMSTEC countries. He said at the BIMSTEC summit that the integration of UPI with the payment system of the regional group will promote trade and tourism. Earlier on Friday, PM Modi held a meeting with Senior General Ang Having of Myanmar, where he discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 6th BIMSTEC summit held in Thailand. Earlier, he was welcomed by Thai Prime Minister Partangatar Shinavatra. In the 6th edition of the summit, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the commitment to increase cooperation in various fields and said, “Our efforts bring positive changes in the lives of people.” The leaders also kept a minute’s silence for the earthquake victims in Myanmar and Thailand on 28 March. The Prime Minister also expressed his condolences on the loss of life and property after the earthquake on March 28.

Prior to the BIMSTEC Summit, Thai PM organized a dinner for BIMSTEC group leaders, in which PM Modi and Chief Advisor of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus were sitting together. Yunus’s office shared pictures of the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh sitting next to Modi at Hotel Shangri-La on the banks of the Chao Fraya River.
