Punjab Police raided 501 places, 75 drug smugglers arrested

The Punjab Police on Thursday said that it raided 501 places and arrested 75 smugglers as part of the ongoing campaign against the threat of narcotics.

Police said 53 FIRs have been registered across the state. He said that with the arrest of 75 smugglers, the total number of drug smugglers arrested in six days has reached 622.

According to the police, 8.2 kg of heroin, 4.5 kg opium, 1,294 drug or injections and Rs 1.04 lakh cash were recovered from the possession of drug smugglers arrested during the raid.

On the instructions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, this campaign was carried out in all the districts of the state. Last week, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had set a time limit of three months to make the state intoxicated free.

Action is being taken against drug smugglers as part of a renewed campaign against the problem of drugs by the state government and their properties have also been demolished at some places.

The state government also constituted a cabinet sub-committee to monitor the action against drug threats. Special Director General of Police Arpit Shukla said that more than 250 police teams with more than 1,700 policemen raided the entire state and investigated 635 suspects during the day -long campaign.

Meanwhile, the Amritsar Municipal Corporation collaborated with the Punjab Police demolished two -storey houses and shops built by drug smugglers. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the demolished properties were of two notorious narcotics smugglers Gurmeet Singh and Sandeep Singh alias Sonu.

Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that no person who tries to save the people or criminals involved in this crime will be spared, irrespective of their position or influence.
