In his address given at the conference, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan criticized the ‘fake secularists’ targeting Hinduism in the name of freedom of expression and appealed to honor all religions. Addressing the huge conference of the devotees of Lord Murugan, “Muruga Bhaktigal Manadu”, Pawan Kalyan said that he is “a righteous Hindu, but a committed Hindu.” In his address, Pawan Kalyan said that the term secularism is a “convenient word” for many people. He said, “Especially for atheists who do not believe in God … They do not believe in Hindu gods in India.” He said that secularism does not mean any discrimination against any religion, but for them secularism means no discrimination against any religion except Hinduism.

While addressing the conference, former President of Tamil Nadu unit of BJP K.K. Annamalai said that there should not be any kind of conversion from Hinduism and those who have changed religion should return to Hinduism. Annamalai said that the huge presence of Hindus at the conference of devotees of Lord Murugan is a warning for the people sitting in power. He said that every temple of Lord Murugan has a special message – love, knowledge, married life, victory over evil and peace. He said, “This people in power have to decide how they want to see Hindus.” He said that Hindus often forgive him who causes them to suffer small or big harm, but today Hindus are facing constant attacks on their way of living their lives. Annamalai said, “Political leaders who come to power by Hindu votes use derogatory language against Hindus, because they feel that Hindus will never unite.”
Annamalai said that “Our children should get the right to apply Vibhuti (Bhasma) on the forehead and wear Rudraksha garland in school. Such conferences are required to deal with such problems.” He further said that the world population of Jews is only 0.2%, yet they are fighting four countries for their rights. Annamalai said that when India fights against border terrorism, our political leaders come down on criticism.

He questioned, “When he kept talking about Ram in North India, Ganesh in Tamil Nadu and Ayyappa in Kerala, then why are they suddenly trying to adopt Murugan?”
