About one thousand tourists have been trapped there due to landslides due to heavy rains in the Himalayan state northern Sikkim. Police gave this information. Police said that about 200 tourists were trapped in Chungthang on Thursday and these people are staying there in a gurudwara. Chungthang is located about 100 kilometers from Gangtok, the capital of the state. According to the police, there has been a huge landslide in Munshithang on Lchen-Chungthang road and Lemung-Chungthang Marg. The situation worsened due to continuous rains in the area.

It is to be noted here that the landslides have affected major routes connecting tourist destinations such as Lachen, Lachung and Yumthang in northern Sikkim, which are popular areas among tourists in spring and summer season. Rescue operations and coordination continue, but the situation remains tense as rain continues in the area. Local authorities have urged visitors and residents to be vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation improves.
About 1,000 tourists stranded in northern Sikkim
Police officials have also confirmed that about 1,000 tourists are stranded in the affected areas as a result of landslides. He said that about 200 tourist vehicles are stranded in Chungthang and the people aboard are staying there in a gurudwara. Chungthang is about 100 km from Gangtok, the capital of the state. Officials said that the officials have directed all tour operators not to send tourists to North Sikkim on Friday and till further orders.

Permit suspended for travel
Talking to the media, Superintendent of Police of Mangan district of North Sikkim, Sonam Dechu Bhutia announced the cancellation of permits due to road barriers and landslides due to challenging weather conditions and landslides. Bhutia said, “There has been a huge landslide on Lachen Chungthang Road on Munshithang and Lachung Chungthang Road. In addition, there is continuous rain in North Sikkim. The road to Chungthang is open, but due to heavy rains, the night cannot be reached. Therefore, the permits for North Sikkim will not be issued and all the advance permits will be issued.”
