New Delhi. The government has constituted a committee headed by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavia, with three members of which will be the Olympic medalist player. This committee will advise to identify and enhance talents and enhance them, ensure fair and transparent selection, monitor the performance of athletes participating in international competitions and evaluate the coach. Members of the seventeen -member Sports Expert Advisory Committee will be famous boxer Mary Kom, tennis player Leander Paes and badminton player Saina Nehwal, who have won the Olympic medals.
The Union Minister of State for Sports will be the vice -chairman of the Defense Khadse Committee and will be the Sports Secretary/Joint Secretary Convenor. According to the circular of the Ministry of Sports on Saturday, the committee consists of government representatives and retired prestigious athletes of various sports. The objectives of the committee include identifying talents and giving an eye on the selection of national athletes/teams to ensure training related advice for the development of sub-junior and junior level athletes, to ensure fair and transparent selection. In addition, the committee will inspect and analyze the performance of coaching facilities and national teams associated with national teams during national camps.
Other members of the committee are – Shiney Abraham (athletics), Heena Sidhu (shooting), Major General VK Bhatt (Roeing), Zafar Iqbal (Hockey), PK Garg (sailing), Armando Colako (Football), Ashok Kumar (Wrestling ), Bhanu Sachdeva (swimming), Parul Danasukhabhai Paramer (Para Badminton), CEO of ‘Tops’ and Executive Director of Team Division in Sai (Sports Authority of India). A sports specialist panel made of expert players/trainers/officers has also been set up for monitoring/supervisory activities for the purpose of taking forward the objectives of the expert advisory committee.
