UNESCO recognition of four heritage sites in MP: Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Tuesday that the state’s rich historical heritage has been globally recognized, as its four sites have been included in its possible list to include further in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Last week, a total of six historical sites in India, including four in Madhya Pradesh, were included in the possible list of UNESCO. He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state has achieved another achievement in promoting its cultural heritage on the world stage, which includes the Ashok inscription site, the fourteenth yogini temple, the temples of the Gupta period and the palace of Bundelon, which shows the distinguished place of Madhya Pradesh in the cultural and historical landscapes of India.

The Chief Minister said, this recognition is a proof of the state’s commitment to preserve its invaluable heritage. Last year, UNESCO also included six heritage sites in Madhya Pradesh in its possible list – it includes Gwalior Fort, Burhanpur’s bloody Bhandara, Chambal Valley Rock Art Sites, Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple in Bhojpur, Gond Memorial of Ramnagar and Dhamanar’s historic group.

With this latest inclusion, Madhya Pradesh now has 18 UNESCO -recognized heritage sites – three in permanent list (Khajuraho Temple Group, Bhimbetka Rock Shelter and Buddhist monuments of Sanchi) and 15 possible list.

Other sites in the possible list include the monuments of Mandu, the historic group of Orchha, Bhedaghat-Lamtaghat in the Narmada Valley, Satpura Tiger Reserve and the prestigious sari-bottle group of India Chanderi. Yadav said that this honor reflects the state’s commitment to heritage protection and sustainable tourism.

Yadav congratulated Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Culture Department, Archaeologists, enthusiasts of history, organizations and citizens, who have contributed greatly to preserve the cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh.

He called upon the people of Madhya Pradesh to unite in their commitment to protect these historical treasures to ensure that the cultural pride of the state grows on the global tourism map.
