The Bahraich district administration of Uttar Pradesh has imposed the National Security Act (Rasuka) against the five accused sent to jail in connection with communal violence in Maharajganj in October last year.
A senior official of the district gave this information on Tuesday. District Magistrate (DM) Monica Rani of Bahraich issued this order on 10 March on the basis of recommendation of senior police officers.
This was confirmed in an official statement issued by the District Magistrate’s Office on Tuesday evening. The statement said, during the immersion of the Durga statue in Maharajganj of Hardi police station area last year, the miscreants pelted stones at the procession, which disrupted the public system.
After this, Ram Gopal Mishra (22), a young man involved in the procession, died in the violence. A case was registered against six nominated and several unknown people at Hardi police station on the basis of Tahrir of the deceased’s brother. The FIR has been charged under various sections related to the case.
After investigation, charges were proved against 13 people and later a charge sheet was filed in the court. All the accused are in judicial custody in Bahraich District Jail. The district administration started the process of applying Rasuka against the main accused in view of the seriousness of the incident and the need to maintain law and order.
Action was taken against accused Abdul Hameed, Mohammad Talib alias Sablu, Mohammad Sarfaraz Ahmed alias Rinku, Shakeel Ahmed alias Bablu and Khurshid Ahmed under Rasuka.
