Vishwakhabram: London’s Harshita Brella murder case has shocked Indians living abroad.

The case of brutal murder of an Indian girl by her husband in East London has shocked the entire Britain. This incident has been condemned in the British Parliament and an intensive campaign is being conducted to catch the murdered husband of the girl. Let us tell you that after a woman’s body was recovered from the trunk of a car a few days ago, the British police investigating the case have intensified the search for her husband of Indian origin on suspicion of murder. Police suspect that the accused fled the country after killing his wife Harshita Brela earlier this month. Police believe that Pankaj murdered Harshita at his home in Corby, kept her body in the trunk of his car and fled leaving the car in London, about 145 kilometers away. Initial investigation revealed that Harshita was facing domestic violence. Harshita had obtained a 28-day domestic violence protection order against her husband Pankaj Lamba. But his home in Corby, Northamptonshire, had not been renovated before he was murdered this month. Seeing this case, girls who are planning to get married and settle in a foreign country should be careful and should do proper research about the person whom they are going to make their life partner.
On behalf of Northamptonshire Police, Chief Inspector Paul Cash has said that more than 60 detectives are working on this case and the police have released the photograph of accused Pankaj Lamba and appealed to the people to provide information if they have any information. Paul Cash said: “Following inquiries we suspect that Harshita was murdered by her husband Pankaj Lamba in Northamptonshire earlier this month.”

Meanwhile, the woman’s family has appealed for justice. Brela’s mother Sudesh Kumari, father Satbir Brela and sister Sonia Dabas tearfully spoke to the media about Harshita’s death. Satbir Brela said, “I want my son-in-law to be brought to justice and my daughter’s body brought back home.” He described his daughter as a simple and serious young woman who wanted to become a teacher. Harshita married Lamba last year and moved to Britain in April. According to Sonia Dabas, her sister worked in a warehouse and Pankaj Lamba was a student in London. Sonia Dabas said, “She struggled a lot because of her husband.” Sonia Dabas said that she had told Harshita to leave her job and come back to India.
The family says they last spoke to Harshita on phone on November 10, when she told them that she had prepared food and was waiting for Pankaj Lamba to come home. After that Harshita’s phone remained switched off for the next two days. After this, the worried family asked some people they knew to lodge a complaint on 13 November. According to the family, Harshita’s husband had complained that she did not cook food on time and that she talked too much to her mother. In late August, Harshita called her father in India to tell him that she had left home because her husband was abusive.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister has termed the murder of Indian-origin girl Harshita Brela (24) as a ‘barbaric’ act. Local MP Lee Barron raised the issue in the ‘House of Commons’ and asked Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner whether domestic violence protection orders (DVPOs) should last longer than 28 days in some circumstances. Let us tell you that DVPOs are court orders that prohibit the perpetrator of domestic violence from returning to his home or having contact with the victim. Lee Baron said: “This tragic murder has shocked and horrified a community and is being investigated by police. Harshita was protected by a domestic violence protection order lasting 28 days. But it was not renewed.” In her reply, Angela Rayner said that the government is committed to halving violence against women and girls. He said, “My thoughts are with Harshita’s family in the horrific circumstances where Harshita should have been protected and made to feel protected… Hopefully we in the House will continue to do our work so that this To ensure that we end the situation faced by Harshita. We can stop such barbaric acts.
On the other hand, the investigation into the murder of Harshita Brela was initiated in Northampton and adjourned till May 21, 2025. The international search for her 23-year-old husband Pankaj Lamba is going on. During the hearing related to the investigation, the provisional cause of Harshita’s death was declared to be manual strangulation. The police have released a series of photographs of Lamba based on the video recorded in CCTV. Pankaj is suspected of killing his wife at their home in Corby on November 10 and then took her body to London, about 145 km away, and fled the country leaving the car behind.
