Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday dismissed the BJP’s demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede and alleged that the BJP does politics in everything. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned why the BJP did not demand the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year. Talking to reporters, Siddaramaiah asked that 40-50 people were killed in a stampede at the Kumbh Mela. Did he then demand the Chief Minister’s resignation? A bridge collapsed on the day of inauguration and 140 people were killed. Did he then demand the resignation of the Prime Minister?

Siddaramaiah said, “BJP is used to misleading people by lying and demanding resignation. The BJP does politics in everything.” Earlier, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi had criticized the Karnataka government over a stampede in Bangalore during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL victory, killing 11 people. Joshi demanded immediate resignation from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar as he handled the crowd in a “irresponsible and insensitive” manner.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team was officially honored by the Karnataka government on the grand stairs of Vidhan Sauha (State Assembly) on 4 June before the stampede incident at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. 11 people died and several people were injured in a stampede in Bengaluru, after which the Karnataka government suspended the top police officers of Kabban Park Police Station on 5 June and formed a member commission under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge to investigate the incident.
