Will interact honestly with America and China: Singapore’s Prime Minister Wong

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said that it would be his priority to deepen the business relations of his country with major powers, especially America and China, interacting honestly with them in theoretical manner and not getting trapped between their rivalry.

Wong said after the swearing in of his newly elected government on Friday, “We (America and China) will work together (in those matters),” we will work together. Where they (interest) will not be the same, we will remain firm and protect Singapore’s safety and sovereignty. ”

He said that his first priority will have to be secured for Singapore in this “changed world”. Wong said that Singapore will also try to make new relations with countries in the world like Africa and South America, where it is not yet special presence.

He said, “In the midst of changing alliances in the world, we will be such a stable and meaningful partner who will be interested and capable of contributing to peace and stability, furthering dialogues and brotherhood and supporting the rules-based global system.”

He said, “Our goal is not just moving forward in this uncertain world, but by working with equal ideologies and maintaining shared principles and values, helping to improve it so that even small countries can get a proper place.”

He said that the country’s economic strategies will be reviewed and they will be replaced according to the new scenario. He said that the government will create “a new economic blueprint of our next phase” to maintain Singapore’s competitive lead and create good employment opportunities for the people of Singapore.

The ruling ‘People’s Action Party’ (PAP), led by Wong, won 87 out of 97 seats in the country’s 15th Parliament. Singapore President Therman Shanmugatharatna presided over the swearing -in ceremony of the new Cabinet of Singapore at Istana (Rashtrapati Bhavan).
