India’s young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a distinct identity for himself in the cricket world in a short time. He has left a great mark with the bat at home and abroad. He impressed in the five-Test series on the recent Australia tour, where he was the highest run-scorer for India. Yashasvi made his international debut in July 2023. He is yet to play Test and T20 International cricket, however, the star opener’s luck may shine in the coming days. Yashasvi may get a chance for ODI debut as a double reward.
Actually, India has to play a five-match T20 and three-match ODI series against England at home from January 22. India vs England ODI series will start from 6th February, which will continue till 12th February. After that the Indian team will enter the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will start from February 19. The Champions Trophy will be organized in ODI format.
According to the report by RevSports, Yashasvi is likely to be selected as the backup opener for the England ODI series and Champions Trophy. There is every possibility that Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma will open.
23-year-old Yashasvi has so far scored 1798 runs in 19 tests at an average of 52.88. He has scored four centuries and 10 half-centuries in the longest format. He has added 723 runs for India in 23 T20 matches at an average of 36.15, which includes one century and five fifties. It is being told that the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will choose the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy by January 12, which is the deadline for all the teams to choose the 15-member squad.
