Yunus said that any constitutional amendment will retain religious freedom and minorities rights in Bangladesh. He said that the Commission for consensus is interacting with political parties on proposed amendments.
Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said in an important development that any constitutional amendment presented in the country will keep religious freedom and the rights of minorities. Yunus also said in a post on its official social media handle that minorities will continue to get equal rights to the majority Muslim population. The US Commission made this comment during a meeting with Stephen Shane, Chairman of the On International Religius Freedom (USCIRF). Yunus said, “We are working hard to create religious harmony in the country. After last year’s rebellion, when asked about the activities of the reform commissions and the proposed constitutional changes, in which the Awami League government led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed.
Yunus said that any constitutional amendment will retain religious freedom and minorities rights in Bangladesh. He said that the Commission for consensus is interacting with political parties on proposed amendments. Minorities will continue to get equal rights to the majority Muslim population. Yunus focused on the role of religion in the country and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintain religious harmony. He said that we are committed to protect the religious freedom of every citizen of the country.
Reacting to allegations of violence with minorities, Younus said that the interim government is committed to transparency and invited global journalists to come and look at the situation directly. In August last year, after Hasina’s withdrawal from power, there was a flood of attacks in Bangladesh, including the Hindu community.
