Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was sold cheaply in the IPL Mega Auction 2025. Actually, there was a possibility of a big bid on Maxwell but Punjab Kings sold him cheaply. Punjab bought him for just Rs 4.2 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore. At the same time, the old franchise RCB completely turned its back on the 36-year-old cricketer.
When Maxwell’s name came up in the auction, no franchise responded for some time. Hyderabad made the first bid. After this Chennai Super Kings came forward. The bidding war between the two continued for some time and Punjab made its entry. Punjab made the last bid of Rs 4.2 crore and included Maxwell.
RCB did not use the RTM card for Maxwell. Maxwell scored only 52 runs in 10 matches in IPL 2024. RCB bought Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore before IPL 2021. He joined RCB in 2022 for Rs 11 crore and played till last season. RCB retained only three Indian players Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal and Rajat Patidar before the auction.
